Centennial Innovation Team

In 2014, Centennial was selected as one of 12 U.S. cities to participate in the $45 million expansion of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Innovation Team program, which aims to improve the capacity of cities to effectively design and implement new approaches that improve citizens’ lives.

The Centennial Innovation Team or "i-team" initially focused on improving mobility across all modes of transportation throughout the City. With the help of the i-team, the City released the Go Centennial pilot program. The pilot was a six-month study to understand the impact of providing free rides to and from the Dry Creek Light Rail Station to remedy the first and last mile challenge. The second mobility initiative consisted of a partnership with the City’s Senior Commission. The Mobility Ambassador Program or “MAP” aims to empower elders throughout the Centennial community by applying a train-the-trainer type model. Trainers interface with elder residents to present different mobility and transportation options that allow for this demographic to continue their independent lifestyles without feeling tied to their personal cars.

With the direction from the City’s Mayor and Council, along with the strong partnership with the Senior Commission, the i-team transitioned focus areas to Aging in Community – with a specific focus on housing. Throughout the different phases of the focus area, the i-team looks forward to working closely with internal and external partners, along with City residents, to introduce a high impact initiative.
